    Bobbi-Sue has another local woman in sports pop by her apartment for this week’s episode. Claire Lessinger is the Director of Special Events for the Tampa Bay Sports Commission. TBSC is the organization that attracts and puts on major sports and entertainment events in the Tampa Bay region such as the Super Bowl, Final Four, and College Football Championship. Prior to TBSC, Claire was head women’s volleyball coach at USF (and assistant coach before that). She was a student-athlete at UF where she met her mentor, Mary Wise. This episode is chock full of information as it relates to coaching, being a former student-athlete, health and wellness, and coffee shops in Tampa!

Girls on the Run is an organization that uses running to teach girls in 3rd – 5th grades life skills such as confidence, balance, and emotional control. Laura has built the Tampa Bay council from 6 locations to 40 in just 4 years! With a master’s degree in non-profit management, Laura started off at a domestic violence transition program. The women talk about non-profit management, running, domestic violence, and how people can get involved with a non-profit.  Zoey (Bobbi-Sue’s youngest furbaby) makes an appearance from time to time. Bobbi-Sue shares a story about her hooligan days as a track star. It’s a fun conversation with the very bouncy and smart, Laura Moore. Zoey, Bobbi-Sue’s cat, makes an “appearance” from time to time.

Having started her professional career doing market research and economic forecasting for the furniture and insurance industries, Tracy found her true calling after she began volunteering for a junior chamber organization on their Championship Tour event. Since then, Tracy has been running events from exclusive charitable runs that end on home base at Fenway Park to PGA tour events. Bobbi-Sue is fascinated by the ins and outs of running a PGA tournament and how fun it must be to have such a creative title sponsor such as Valspar Paints. Other areas touched upon include: how to get more women working in golf or the sports industry generally; a shared love of Dunkin Donuts; and why people from the Northeast need to understand that the sun in Florida is different and they need to wear sunblock.

    Bobbi-Sue speaks with Allison Gorrell, the president of Plan A Management, a boutique full-service consulting firm. With experience in nonprofit management, public relations and special event production, Plan A Management is capable of executing events, programs, projects and campaigns for both nonprofit and for-profit entities. Plan A Management services multiple charitable organizations for athletes, including the Ryan Nece Foundation and the Jackson in Action 83 Foundation. Allison’s career first began in public relations as an intern. The conversation flows from Allison’s early career to making the leap to start her own business.  Allison isn’t afraid to discuss the general attitude towards women in sports and some of the lessons she learned and Bobbi-Sue goes off on a tangent about how women in sports media are treated. The most surprising part of this week’s episode, Allison’s favorite pastime which leaves Bobbi-Sue saying “stop it!” multiple times.
